it was chock full of great times with great people.
on friday evening, riley and i did a fast 3.5 miles before meeting mr. c’s family and megan, our friend who was in town, at west end wine bar for pre-dinner drinks and the unc/villanova game. there were fire trucks in the street as we approached, and within a few minutes of arriving, the place was evacuated due to a small fire under the building. we took our wine and cheese outside for an unconventional happy hour amid the hubub. luckily we were allowed back inside before too long — i was getting antsy not being able to watch the game! we had an incredible dinner at mateo that night. it was my most extensive meal there yet — since we had seven people, we were able to try a good bit of the menu. highlights were the chorizo crusted deviled eggs, braised short rib with roasted red peppers, and brussel sprout salad. it was a lively + lingering meal, my favorite kind.
on saturday morning, i went to the gym and had a great interval workout that wore me out and got rid of the hint of a hangover i’d woken up with. i took riley to the dog park and then to her therapy dog class, during which she was fantastic. afterwards, we met up with the fam + friends at the marry durham block party on rigsbee street. there was so much going on and the afternoon had become very warm + sunny! we got to watch niece EAC take it all in, try fullsteam’s new brew [cackalacky], and i had a snack from the kokyu bbq food truck [12 hour brisket slider + duck fat tots]. we had dinner at sister M’s place that night complete with a fire in the pit, cards against humanity, a [classy!] box of wine, and a delicious meal [grilled steak, rice pilaf, asparagus, and salad]. a pretty perfect saturday!
sunday greeted us cold + rainy. i met natasha at guglhupf and we had a fabulous brunch + conversation that made us [at least me!] forget about the weather. we may or may not have over-ordered, but that’s what brunch is for, right? once back home, i spent the afternoon with riley, my pajamas, and ncaa basketball. what a heartbreaking loss for the tar heels! not a complete surprise, but since we were playing so well in the first half, it made the second half decline even more painful. so anyway, my bracket is ruined and i am now looking ahead to next year!
