friday night was for pitchers + pizza at lilly’s with the C’s [my siblings-in-law]. the weather was perfect and it was a nice treat to end a busy work week. on saturday morning, i did my long run — 8 miles — and it felt great. i needed a change of scenery so i did this run on the tobacco trail. it was a cool morning and there were so many other runners out which made for a more positive, motivating time. and i think all of the hills i’ve been running are paying off because this flat run felt easy. i was so happy during and after this one!
later that morning we headed up to richmond, virginia to visit sister H. she and her fiance moved there last month, and it just so happened that my parents + brother were staying this weekend also on their way up to DC, so it was a family affair. our main excursion was to belle isle, which is an area on the james river full of huge flat rocks — perfect for spending the afternoon. we stayed until sundown playing apples to apples, watching the dogs swim, listening to music, and drinking wine. it was so beautiful! that night was for a delicious dinner out, the loaded questions game, and saturday night live.
the next day we slept in, had brunch [they made a breakfast casserole of grits, cheese, and sausage — yum], and the dogs had one more round of play before we hit the road back to durham. i went into superwoman mode, giving the house a serious clean, doing my “recovery” run [3.5 miles], and getting ready for the week. riley, having spent the weekend roughhousing with ollie, swimming, chasing tennis balls, and trying to hunt geese in the river, was knocked out and wouldn’t even get up to eat her dinner. a tired dog is a happy dog, i say.
it was a good one.
